Generational Storytelling

Melbourne Kathak Festival showcases Kathak, the Indian classical dance form, while amalgamating with Hindustani and Western classical music.

Like kathak is a confluence of many cultures, this festival celebrates the many different cultures of the Indian subcontinent and values the art of multicultural storytelling.

Through this festival, we aim to pass traditional knowledge to the future generations so that the stories of the past have a place in our future. All modes of storytelling (Arts, literature, language, poetry, theatre, dance, music) are welcome here to create an intercultural dialogue.

Our events include thematic performances by young emerging South Asian artists residing in Australia, while also inviting classical music and dance maestros on the same stage.

We value collaboration, co-creation and originality in presenting your own art form.

Preservation and presentation of traditional arts and culture and re-imagining them through multimodal artistic co-creation.
